Rongo MP Paul Abuor has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of corruption, conflict of interest, and theft of public funds.
In a statement on Thursday, January 23, EACC said the arrest followed a successful investigation into the MP's dealings with the Rongo National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Abuor is accused of awarding tenders worth Ksh112 million to companies associated with him during the Financial Year 2017/18 to 2024/25.
"Preliminary investigations have established that the suspect, together with one Christopher Nelson Abour, registered a private company named Aztec Infrastructure Kenya Ltd as directors.
"Using this company, the suspect trades with Rongo Constituency NG-CDF through the construction of classrooms and drilling of boreholes and has so far received Ksh 122 million. He is the sole signatory to the Company Bank Account," the statement read in part.

EACC also noted that through his personal assistant, Abuor registered another company, Jebset Holdings Limited which reportedly received Ksh 19.6 million from the Rongo NG-CDF.
"The MP has, through his Personal Assistant, registered another company by the name Jebset Holdings Limited. Through this company, the Personal Assistant has been paid KES. 19.6 million by Rongo Constituency NG-CDF. The Personal Assistant is the sole Director and signatory to the Company Bank Account.
"The Rongo Constituency matter is part of broader investigations by the Commission into numerous reports of embezzlement of public funds under the NG-CDF, National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), Women Enterprise Fund, and other devolved funds," the statement added.
The graft watchdog stated that such embezzlement schemes often involve conflicts of interest and payroll fraud involving ghost workers.
"The embezzlement is perpetrated largely through conflict of interest, multi-million payments for services not rendered, and payroll fraud involving ghost workers," the statement further read.
Following his arrest, Abuor was taken to the EACC Headquarters at Integrity Centre in Nairobi, where he recorded a statement.
