President William Ruto has signed the County Governments Additional Allocation Bill, 2022, into law.
In a dispatch by State House on Monday, the Head of State assented into law the crucial Bill, bringing a major breakthrough for county governments that have been financially strained.
The Bill, which had been sponsored by Mandera senator Ali Ibrahim Roba, was introduced at the Senate and it provided a legal framework for the allocation of additional revenue to counties.
According to State House, the additional funds will come from either proceeds of loans or grants from development partners or from the national government revenue share.
"President William Ruto has signed the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill 2022, into law. The Bill, sponsored by Mandera Senator Ali Ibrahim Roba, provides the legal framework for the allocation of additional revenue to counties," read the State House dispatch.

The Bill was signed in the presence of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and his Senate counterpart, Amason Kingi.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also witnessed the signing of the Bill at State House, Nairobi.
Wetangula lauded the move by the president, maintaining that it was a befitting gift to Kenyans on Jamhuri Day.
"This is a befitting JAMHURI DAY gift to Kenyans as the law allows disbursement of additional funds to counties to enable them provide services to Kenyans," Wetangula said.
