Machogu further said that the government will pay Sh22,244 for each student in secondary school and Sh15,000 for junior secondary school students.

Education Cabinet Secretary has warned school heads against increasing school fees.

Addressing the nation while launching form one placement on Monday at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, Machogu said the government has not changed the amount parents should pay.

He directed that parents will only pay the amount that was set by the government in 2016.

"I wish to state that the public schools for the 2023 school Calender will not be changed and will remain at 53,554 for national schools while that of the county and extra county schools will remain at Sh40,555," the CS said,

"We are following the Kiremi Mwiria Taskforce report which did come up with the figures schools should pay and that remains that way," he added.

Machogu further said that the government will pay Sh22,244 for each student in secondary school and Sh15,000 for junior secondary school students.

He said the capitation amount means that children in day schools and Grade seven junior secondary should not be charged anything.

Machogu said learners transiting to Grade 7 will have a new uniform for the junior secondary category.

He directed the school management to pick colours and types of uniforms they deem fit.

“The uniforms will not be the same, Board of management to make decisions as to the colour and type of uniform,” Machogu said.

He added that parents will now pay for new school uniforms for the Grade 7 learners.
