Renowned lawyer Cliff Ombeta has asked the state to release sensational preacher Eliud Wekesa also known as Yesu Wa Tongaren.
Ombeta said the state has no case against the preacher adding that his woes could be linked to the fact he christened himself Yesu Wa Tongaren.
But in an apparent defence over using the name Yesu was Tongaren, Ombeta said the name is not protected.
Like other biblical names used by several people, he said Wekesa committed no offence to name himself Yesu wa Tongaren.
"This Friday, let us ask? Is the name Jesus a protected name? Is it a personal name? Is it a universal name? He says he is Yesu wa Tongaren. Not Jesus of Nazareth," Ombeta said.

"Do we have a case against him? What about present-day John? James? David? Are the names...... Let Yesu wa Tongaren go."
The statement by Ombeta came in the wake of appeals asking him to represent Wekesa on pro bono service.
A section of Kenyans who felt he is being targeted unfairly said he lacked funds to hire a lawyer.
Wekesa was arrested and arraigned on Thursday.
Bungoma Law Court Principal Magistrate Tom Olando ordered the police to detain him until Friday(tomorrow) when he will make a ruling.
Elijah Macharia, Bungoma DCIO, had pleaded with the court to detain Wekesa for ten days to pave the way for investigations.
Accusations levelled against ‘Yesu wa Tongaren’ include alleged radicalisation, running an unlawful society and money laundering among others.
