Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga will on Friday lead the opposition for interdenominational prayers for the victims of police brutality in Bondo, Siaya County.
In a statement on Thursday, August 10, the Azimio coalition noted that event will be held at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Park from 9 am to 12;30 pm.
“The Rt. Hon Raila Amolo Odinga will tomorrow, August 11th, 2023 lead Azimio Kenya Coalition in an inter denominational prayers for those who lost their lives during demonstrations following disproportionate use of force by the Police,” read the statement in part.
Opposition leaders will also use the occasion to condemn police brutality and ask the International Criminal Court (ICC) to probe the deaths that occurred during the anti-government protests.
“Leaders will use this occasion to condemn the Kenya Police Service and demand that individual police officers who were involved in the killings be held personally responsible. Azimio will also be asking the ICC to take a keener interest in the Kenya situation which they describe as crimes against humanity,” the statement added.

Caskets of the protestors who were killed will then be laid for public viewing before being transported to their respective homes for burial.
This comes a week after the Azimio coalition held a requiem mass for the victims of the anti-government protests in Karen Nairobi.
During the event, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga contributed one million shillings each. Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka contributed five hundred thousand shillings while Azimio MPs gave out one and a half million shillings.
“I want to acknowledge with grateful thanks the contribution of our brother President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta of one million shillings. I also want to acknowledge the contribution of our brother Raila Amolo Odinga of one million shillings and I am escorting them with half a million shillings. Members of Parliament have already given one and a half million shillings,” Kalonzo announced.
