EPRA on Thursday announced that the price of petrol will be up over Sh16 while that of Diesel by Sh 21.32 and Kerosene by Sh 33.13.

President William Ruto has come under sharp criticism after the prices of fuel hit a record high in the latest review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

EPRA on Thursday announced that the price of petrol will be up over Sh16 while that of Diesel by Sh 21.32 and Kerosene by Sh 33.13.

The review means that the commodity will now surpass the Sh200 mark that it has never hit since time immemorial.

"The maximum allowed petroleum pump prices in Nairobi are as follows: Super Petrol increases by Sh16.96, Diesel increases by Sh21.32 per litre and Kerosene increases by Sh33.13 per litre," Epra announced on Thursday.

“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provision of the Finance Act 2023.”

No stabilisation was applied in the latest review.

According to EPRA, the increase has been fueled by the average landing cost of imported petrol, diesel and kerosene.

Before the review, petrol, diesel, and kerosene in Nairobi were retailing at Sh 194.68, Sh 179.67, and Sh169.48 respectively.

The new petrol has sparked uproar among Kenyans who took to social media to air their frustrations.
