President William Ruto has vowed to implement the Affordable Housing Project in whatever way it takes.
Speaking on Wednesday, December 13 during the Diaspora Investment Conference in KICC, Nairobi, the President said some countries implemented the project and are ahead of Kenya.
“I am telling you this time round, I am implementing it, and I am so determined because we must do it. Korea did it, Singapore did it, Malaysia did it, and that is why they are ahead of us,” said Ruto.
"We know what we must do but we cannot gather the courage to do it but this time round, whatever it takes we are going to implement it."

The Head of State noted that the project was also in the Azimio la Umoja manifesto but nobody wanted it implemented.
“This beautiful project was in the manifesto of Kenya Kwanza. The same housing project, complete with percentages of the levy, was also in the Azimio manifesto, but when it came to the implementation, that is where the devil lives, nobody wanted it implemented,” Ruto noted.
On November 28 the High Court ruled the Housing Levy unconstitutional, null and void.
A 3-judge bench consisting of Justice Lawrence Mugambi, Justice Christine Meoli, and Justice David Majanja found that the Finance Act 2023 amendment to Section 84 of the Finance Act amending the Employment Act introducing the Housing Levy is illegal.
However, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has tabled the Affordable Housing Bill 2023 which seeks to create a legal framework to oversee the affordable housing levy.
