Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has announced that he will not be among the candidates seeking to become the next Council of Governors (CoG), chairman in the elections slated for this Friday.
Kibwana was among the candidates tipped to replace outgoing CoG chairman Wycliffe Oparanya.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Governor Kibwana said that he had pulled out of the race following advice from his team.
"I will not be a candidate for Council of Governors elections. As a 2022 Presidential Candidate, I have been advised by my Team that serving in the next CoG executive can constitute a conflict of interest. I thank my colleagues for the opportunity to serve as Chief Whip," Kivutha tweeted.
According to reports, lobbying has intensified and governors Mwangi Wa Iria and Martin Wambora are among the names now being tipped to succeed Oparanya.
