The government has announced a Ksh123 million allocation to select Muslim communities in the country.
Speaking on Thursday, March 7, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura indicated the money released by President William Ruto's administration will target vulnerable Muslim households.
According to Mwaura, the government released the funds to help the families access food during the Holy month of Ramadhan.
"As we begin the Holy month of Ramadhan, the government has allocated Ksh 123 million resources to ensure vulnerable Muslim households access nutritious meals.

"This initiative aims to promote religious observance, alleviate financial strain, foster social inclusion, and exemplify the government's commitment to fairness, empathy, and unity among all citizens," Mwaura stated.
Besides the money, Mwaura revealed that the Kenya Kwanza administration has donated foodstuff including 4800 50-kg bags of rice, 12,000 bags of beans, vegetable oil, and 28 boxes of sardine.
The money allocation comes days after the government gave the Muslim community in the country a one-month duty-free offer ahead of the Ramadhan period.
Ruto has allowed businessmen to import dates that will be used during the Ramadhan period without paying the stipulated duty. Dates are sweet, chewy fruit of the date palm tree.
Ramadan in Kenya in 2024 is expected to begin on the evening of Sunday, March 10th, and continue until sunset on Tuesday, April 9th.
"We sincerely appreciate H.E President William Ruto for expressing the Government's support and solidarity with the Muslim Community of Kenya through the importation of duty-free dates during this year's Holy month of Ramadan, expected to run between 10th March to 9th April," Defence Cabinet Secretary stated.
"This continued gesture of kindness is an affirmation of our belief in a unified nation of diverse religious practices as enshrined in the Constitution."
