United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar has weighed in on Cleophas Malala’s allegations that Kimani Ichung’wah and Cecily Mbarire plotted his ouster from the party secretary general position.

In a statement on Friday, August 16, Omar said Malala was removed from the Secretary-General position legally and procedurally.

He noted that Malala was removed by UDA’s National Executive Committee (NEC) an organ that had appointed him to the position.

“For the avoidance of doubt. Malala was legally and procedurally removed from office as the Secretary General of UDA, and the same acknowledged and ratified by the Registrar of Political Parties. The office subsequently effected the changes as required of it by law.

“Malala's ouster was a collective decision by the Party's National Executive Committee (NEC), the same organ that had appointed him to hold the position in an "acting" capacity. Suffice it to say, the organ that appointed him is the very one that unanimously decided to replace him,” read the statement in part.

Omar also dismissed Malala’s claim that his removal from the party position was a scheme aimed at climaxing in the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The acting UDA Secretary-General pointed out that Governor Mbarire is not a Member of Parliament and thus cannot sponsor a motion of impeachment.

Omar warned Malala against making unfounded claims of a purported impeachment of DP Gachagua.

“We wish to caution Malala against roping the Party and particularly its Chairperson and the Majority Leader in the political shenanigans of an unfounded claim of Deputy President's impeachment and seek his sympathies through any other means,” Omar added.

On Thursday Malala accused Ichung’wah and Mbarire of plotting a ‘coup’ together with the party secretariat to remove him from the SG position.

The former Kakamega Senator went on to say his removal had nothing to do with incompetence but was a plot aimed at impeaching Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“My ouster by the above officials had nothing to do with incompetence or my inability to run the UDA party but was a well-choreographed script intended to climax with the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” Malala alleged.
