BRT is a concept that was started during the reign of former President Uhuru Kenyatta to ease traffic within Nairobi.


The Ministry of Transport has committed to oversee the implementation of two Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) projects during the current financial year.

In a meeting between the Ministry's officials and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Performance and Delivery, Eliud Owalo, it was revealed that the government will implement BRT lines 2 and 4.

BRT line 2 is expected to run from Rongai - Bomas (Langata Rd) - CBD - Ruiru - Thika to Kenol.

On the other hand, BRT line 4 should run from Mama Lucy Hospital - Donholm (Jogoo Rd) - CBD - T Mall - Bomas - Karen to Kikuyu.

"The Ministry commits to overseeing Lines 2 and 4 of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Implementation within Nairobi Metropolitan Area," read the statement in part.

The BRT lines will be used by large buses that carry many passengers at ago, therefore, easing way for other vehicles on the other lanes.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) plans to undertake another BRT along the Outering Road within the next two years.

“Once implemented, the project will provide an efficient, environmentally friendly, and affordable mode of transport for Eastland’s residents commuting from Taj Mall all the way to Allsops connecting Thika Road,” KURA revealed in September 2024.
