The activist has been released from police custody.

Activist Boniface Mwangi has been released from Kamukunji Police Station where he was being held since Sunday, October 27.

Confirming the release on Monday, October 28, Haki Africa CEO Hussein Khalid stated that Mwangi was freed without any charges.

"I can confirm firm that Boniface Mwangi has been freed with no charges. Wife, children and friends were there during his release," Khalid stated.

The activist was received outside the station by his wife Njeri Mwangi, his children and a section of his friends.

NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua was also among those who were at the Kamukunji Police Station.

Mwangi's release comes after his wife on Sunday stated that the activist was forcefully picked up from his home by unidentified people and driven to an undisclosed location.

"This morning at around 7.15, six uninformed people went to courage base and forcefully took my husband Boniface Mwangi from the house. I have no idea who, why, or where they have taken him," Njeri posted on X.

Mwangi was later traced at the Kamukunji Police Station, where Njeri confirmed that he was being held over allegations of incitement to violence using his social media accounts.

“He has been taken because of the StanChart Marathon. He sent something about ‘Occupy StanChart’ and it was very clear. He said that people need to be safe and wear a flag. When did it become a crime that to wear a flag in this country you will be arrested?” Njeri posed.

Kenyans on X demanded the release of Mwangi for the better part of Sunday using the hashtag #FreeBonifaceMwangi.
