"The church should respect the authority in power."

Baringo Women Representative Florence Jematiah Sergon has apologised after she asked the church to respect the authority.

In a statement on Wednesday, November 20, Sergon disclosed that she has withdrawn her remarks, stating that the church should be left to do its work.

"Hello Kenyans, I have gone through all the comments on my previous post about churches. I hereby withdraw my statement and apologize. I had to agree with you all that churches should be left to do their work and can include oversight because believers are citizens," Sergon remarked.

On Tuesday, the MP claimed that the church should stop demeaning the government and stop unnecessary incitements.

Sergon further asserted that the work of the church should be giving hope to the believers.

"The church should respect the authority in power. Stop demeaning the government and unnecessary inciting other denominations. Churches to do their work of hope and faith to the believers," she stated.

Her remarks came after Catholic bishops and the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) called out the government on various matters, including abductions, taxation and the newly rolled out Social Health Authority (SHA).

The clergy, however, stated the church was neither condemning nor criticizing the government but was demanding accountability, transparency, and urgent interventions to resolve matters raised.

“It is time the government realized that too much talk and open-ended promises will not do,” ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit stated on Monday.
