Environment CS Aden Duale has announced that the government of Saudi Arabia will support the nationwide cleaning project with funding amounting to $20 million (Ksh2.5 billion).

In a statement dated Friday, November 22, the CS detailed that the funding will be a grant under the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI).

Duale revealed that the money will be used to distribute Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) stoves across various households.

"Kenya will receive a $20 million (Ksh2.5 billion) grant under the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) to scale up LPG stove distribution nationwide, advancing climate action, public health and livelihoods under the Kenya Kwanza administration's BETA plan," read the statement in part.

"This initiative, apart from contributing to our environment conservation goals, also opens economic opportunities for women and youth."

The CS made the remarks while meeting with a delegation from the Saudi Arabia Government led by Dr Abdul Karim Almutairi (Senior Advisor) and Eng Reema Al-Ashgar (Manager - Nairobi) from the Clean Cooking Project.

Further, he announced that Saudi Energy Minister HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman would be visiting Kenya next year as Kenya seeks to foster its partnership on the project.

According to the Kenya Kwanza plan, 60,000 6KG gas cylinders will be distributed to various households this financial year.

President William Ruto's administration is also keen on setting up LPG infrastructure in various public schools across the country.
