Mutua has announced that the countrywide recruitment drive for Kenyans interested in jobs abroad will stop briefly.

Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced that the countrywide recruitment drive for Kenyans interested in jobs abroad will stop briefly.

In a statement on Wednesday, November 27, the CS said the exercise will pause to allow for preparations for the upcoming Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Mutua explained that during the break, the government will shift focus to processing job offers for successful applicants.

"As we continue with this journey, the recruitment drive will take a brief pause to accommodate preparations for the upcoming Jamhuri Day celebrations. During this pause, we will focus on processing the 5,931 job offers by facilitating the issuance of passport and certificates of good conduct for successful applicants," he said.

Additionally, Mutua stated that the government will also be making some changes in a bid to improve the program's efficiency.

"Additionally, this break will give us an opportunity to take stock of the exercise, realign dates, and incorporate venue suggestions from local leaders to improve the program's efficiency. I want to ensure all successful applicants that they will be contacted by Wednesday next week, and a new schedule for the exercise will be announced after Jamhuri Day," he added.

This new development comes a week after Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura revealed the total number of Kenyans who have secured jobs abroad through government programs.

In a statement following a radio interview on Monday, November 18, he said over 100,000 Kenyans have benefited from job opportunities in Canada and Australia among other countries.

"A total of 105,367 Kenyans have benefitted from job opportunities abroad in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain among others," he stated.

Mwaura also disclosed that the government is in talks with other countries to open more job opportunities for Kenyans interested in working abroad.

"The government is also finalizing bilateral negotiations with other countries to expand our labor export market beyond our traditional destinations. Active negotiations are in the sunset stages with Russia, Poland, and Jordan to open more doors of opportunities to Kenyans abroad," remarked Mwaura.
