The Ministry of Interior has disclosed that it has put in place a number of measures to ensure the safety of Kenyans during the festive season.

In a statement on Wednesday, December 4, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo noted that the ministry has bolstered patrols in major towns and transport hubs across the country.

"In the company of the National Security Multi-agency Team, we convened a media briefing to outline the government's preparedness to ensure security and safety during the festive season.

"Recognizing the increased movement and activities, we have bolstered patrols in major towns, transport hubs and tourist sites to enhance safety and maintain order," Omollo remarked.

The PS further intimated that the Ministry will establish security command centres across the country, with Langata Barracks being the main hub where all security operations will be coordinated.

At the same time, Omollo declared that traffic police officers were on the ground to enforce road safety, adding that partnerships with community policing groups have been strengthened to improve intelligence sharing.

He also indicated that the government has heightened cybersecurity monitoring to protect Kenyans from online threats.

"To protect against online threats, cybersecurity monitoring has been heightened, ensuring safe financial transactions and digital engagements. With rapid response units on high alert, the government is committed to delivering a secure and peaceful festive season for all Kenyans," Omollo explained.

On November 15, Prime Cabinet Secretary and acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi ordered all traffic officers to ensure Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) are roadworthy and driven safely ahead of the festive season.

Mudavadi further urged all road users to exercise caution ahead of the festive season so as to avoid tragedy on the road.
