National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has thanked Kenyans who have been sharing in the grief of his family.
The family's matriach Anne Nanyama was announced dead on Friday, December 20.
"I would like to convey my deepest gratitude to everyone who has condoled our family following the passing of our matriarch, Mama Anne Nanyama Wetang'ula, which occurred after a long illness," Wetang'ula said on X.
The Speaker revealed that his deceased mother was born on the 9th of March, 1930, into the Babuya clan.
He eulogised her as a strict disciplinarian, a passionate advocate for education, and a devout Catholic faithful.

Wetang'ula added that his mother contributed to her children's exemplary lives today thanks to her insistence on the virtues of life.
"Mama Anne was a teacher by profession, thereby instilling in her family the virtues of respect, honesty, and trust. She was also a dedicated farmer and a passionate advocate for equity. May her soul Rest in Eternal Peace," he mourned.
President William Ruto led other dignitaries in paying tribute to Wetang'ula's mother.
"Anne Nanyama was a progressive, responsible and caring woman who raised upright children. May God grant comfort to the family, friends and the people of Bungoma at this sad time. Rest in Peace, Mayi Nanyama," the president said.
"The passing on this morning of Khukhu Anne Nanyama Wetang’ula, the mother of Rt Hon Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Hon Tim Wanyonyi, MP for Westlands, has plunged the Parliament of Kenya and, indeed, the entire country into deep mourning," wrote Amason Kingi.
