Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has urged his Busia counterpart, Okiya Omtatah, to persuade the Senate to convene a special sitting to summon security agencies and hold them accountable for security lapses affecting Kenyans.
In a statement on Monday, December 30, Cherargei reminded Omtatah that the residents of Busia elected him to office, giving him the ideal platform to advocate for human rights rather than participating in demonstrations.
"To my brother Senator Omtatah, the people of Busia County elected you to be the senator of the Republic of Kenya. My advice is to convince the Senate to hold a special sitting to allow all of us to summon IG, NIS, IPOA & DCI to be held accountable for these heinous lapses of security. You have a better platform to champion victim's rights than illegal demonstrations," Cherargei remarked.
His remarks came after Omtatah was arrested in Nairobi on Monday while participating in the protests against abductions.
Following the arrest, he was booked at the Central Police Station and disclosed that he had been arrested alongside other protesters.

Before his arrest, Omtatah filed a petition in court seeking to compel security agencies to produce abducted Kenyans, whether dead or alive.
Subsequently, the High Court ordered the immediate and unconditional release of six abducted Kenyans.
