Education PS Belio Kipsang has admitted that the government is yet to complete the construction of classes set to be used this year by Grade 9 students.

On Monday, January 6, Kipsang revealed that Grade 9 students would be expected to commence the calendar year as scheduled.

He announced that school heads had been advised to come up with temporary solutions to allow the government to complete the classes within the next 30 days.

For instance, he noted that some classes would be combined in the event there is room within the other classes.

Grade 9 students will also be allowed to use free classes when other students go for outdoor activities such as Physical Education (PE).

"In situations where congestion cannot be allowed, we can have a multi-shift where one class is having an outdoor activity another group can optimise that classroom," he stated.

"This is to ensure that within the next 30 days, we do not disrupt learning."

According to an earlier communication by the Ministry, 16,000 were constructed to host Grade 9 students. However, some of the classes are yet to be completed.

The classes are reported to be at 93 per cent of their completion.

Meanwhile, the 2025 academic year began on Monday with students expected to continue resuming learning in various institutions throughout the week.
