The locals' efforts to put off the fire did not yield results, as properties valued at millions were reduced to ashes.

Locals of Moi's Bridge, Uasin Gishu County, are counting losses after their property was reduced to ashes.

The figure occurred on Saturday dawn, January 18.

According to sources, the inferno was instigated by a gas explosion.

In a video seen by Nairobi Leo, traders are seen striving to salvage some of their property before the fire intensified.

Police and other responders from the county emergency department were yet to show up at the scene at the time of publication.

The inferno came days after another at the University of Nairobi.

A fire broke out on Wednesday night, January 15, at the varsity's main campus in Nairobi, razing down a section of buildings in the institution.

Confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch disclosed that the fire affected parts of the Mahatma Gandhi Wing Block, which houses offices and a hall.

"A fire has been reported in a section of the University of Nairobi. Firefighters are at the scene. Efforts to put it out are underway," the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch stated.

However, in an update, the organization noted that the fire was successfully contained by the Nairobi City County firefighters and no casualties were reported.

"The Nairobi Fire Team has successfully contained the fire, which affected parts of the Mahatma Gandhi Wing Block. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported," the Kenya Red Cross Nairobi Branch remarked.
