The former deputy president has in the recent past been meeting leaders in an apparent plan to launch his political vehicle.

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua played host to former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua at her home in Gichugu, Murang'a country.

In a video seen by Nairobi Leo, Karua was spotted welcoming Gachagua with his spouse, Dorcas Rigathi, on Saturday, January 25.

Whilst the leaders did not immediately comment on the agenda of their meeting at the time of publication, political seers already translated it as a meetup to strategise on the politics ahead of the 2022 election.

The meeting comes weeks after Karua hinted at working with Gachagua regardless of the political and ideological differences.

Speaking at a television interview on December 23, 2024, she noted that she would be open to working with like-minded leaders in opposing President William Ruto's administration.

However, she confirmed that they had not engaged in talks over forging an alliance.

Karua acknowledged that she had earlier been irritated by the actions of Gachagua while in government, adding that they were not enemies.

"I have not talked to him (Gachagua), and he has not sought me out, but I cannot rule out talking to anybody. He is not my enemy. Kenya has one common enemy and he is called William Ruto and his regime. The fact that I have not talked to him does not make him my enemy," she stated.

"He may have done things that irritated or annoyed me but that is life. People can always fix the broken but at the moment we were not talking."

Karua was one of the leaders who criticised Gachagua for his remarks and conduct in government.

Meanwhile, Gachagua has been meeting leaders at his Nyeri home, picking their minds on a possible formation that would challenge Ruto.

It is, however, not lost that Gachagau cannot run for office as an impeached person; the Kenyan constitution bars an impeached leader from holding a public office, whether elective or appointive.

In December last year, the former deputy president hinted at backing Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 presidential election.
