NCIC: We express our collective outrage at the rising political temperatures in the country. Over the past few months, we have noted with concern, the hatred, bigotry, and political rhetoric that is slowly degenerating into violence.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has hit out at NCIC boss Dr Samuel Kobia over a statement released on Sunday condemning the Murang’a violence.

In the statement, NCIC noted that the clashes were as a result of the rising political temperatures which have been marred by hatred, bigotry and political rhetoric.

“We express our collective outrage at the rising political temperatures in the country. Over the past few months, we have noted with concern, the hatred, bigotry, and political rhetoric that is slowly degenerating into violence,” NCIC statement partly read.

The commission further warned that the current political atmosphere could create division and precipitate a genocide of Rwanda’s magnitude.

“We do note, with deep concern, that the attacks, and counter-attacks, have created space for threats of violence to emerge. Of significance, is the hustlers-dynasty dichotomy that mirrors the narrative that preceded the Rwanda Genocide," the statement read in part.

On Sunday two people succumbed as a result of violence while three others were hospitalised after sustaining injuries following clashes that involved two rival groups in Kenol, Murang'a.

Murkomen’s response to the statement

Reacting to the statement, Murkomen termed Dr Kobia a disgrace to the nation, noting that he was quick to attack DP Ruto’s allies, yet he is silent on recent pronouncement by Murang’a leaders who have allegedly declared the county a no-go zone for Tanga tanga members.

“NCIC Chair Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia is a disgrace to the nation. Leaders led by a Governor, Senator and Woman Rep have declared a county no go zone and calling other Kenyans outsiders and you are busy attacking hustlers? What are you waiting? Is it because they are not Ruto allies? Kieleweke wewe,” he tweeted.
