National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has ruled that the Kenya Kwanza coalition is the majority side in the August House.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, February 12, Wetang'ula ruled that Kenya Kwanza side has 165 members comprising members elected on UDA, Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya among other parties.
On the other hand, the Speaker ruled that the Azimio la Umoja coalition was the minority side with 154 members.
The parties considered to be part of Azimio were ODM, Wiper Party and Jubilee among others.
Wetangula added that there were 12 independent MPs with 4 vacancies yet to be filled.

"The Kenya Kwanza Coalition is the majority party of the House while Azimio la Umoja is the minority party of the House," Wetang'ula ruled.
Additionally, the Speaker stated that he had not received any communication from the respective parties on the changes of leadership.
Therefore, he maintained that Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah would continue as the majority leader.
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed will also continue in his role as the minority leader.
Following the ruling, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo added that Azimio would seek redress over the ruling.
However, she did not indicate the exact course of action that the opposition would be pursuing.
"As Azimio we are going to take further action. I respectfully note your communication, Mr Speaker," she remarked after the ruling.
