Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has proposed the establishment of the office of the Prime Minister for Raila Odinga following his unsuccessful bid to secure the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship seat.
In a statement on Monday, February 17, Cherargei suggested that creating the position would be a fitting consolation for the Azimio leader.
"We must now fully implement the NADCO Report by amending the 2010 constitution by creating the office of the Prime Minister and allowing Raila Odinga to serve Kenyans in that capacity.
"We cannot allow such brilliant leadership and experience to go waste the way the Africa Union did. This is the only way we can appreciate and reward him for his fight for the rule of law and democracy in Kenya," he said.

Cherargei's suggestion came moments after Belgut MP Nelson Koech stated that the Kenya Kwanza government would have to find a position to accommodate Raila.
Speaking in an interview on Monday morning, Koech said they will relook at the NADCO report to find a position for Raila.
The UDA MP noted that the former Prime Minister has a lot of experience and wisdom that will help the government in bettering the country.
“Raila Odinga is coming back home, what will he be doing with his energy, wisdom, and experience? I think we in Kenya Kwanza should accommodate that experience and counsel that he will give us and I think it will improve our country.
“We have to find a structure that will accommodate Raila, whichever position that accommodates him we have to find it. We could relook at the NADCO report,” he said.
In the AUC election held on February 15, 2025, during the AU summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Djibouti's Foreign Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf was elected as the new AUC Chairperson.
Youssouf secured the position after seven rounds of voting, obtaining 33 votes in the final round.
Raila was eliminated in the sixth round, having garnered 22 votes, while Madagascar's former Foreign Minister, Richard Randriamandrato, was eliminated in earlier rounds.
