Geoffrey Ruku is the only MP elected under the Democratic Party of Kenya (DP).

Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku has announced he will continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza coalition despite the Democratic Party (DP) issuing a notice to exit the ruling coalition.

Speaking on Wednesday, March 19, Ruku said that the decision of DP to exit Kenya Kwanza was made by the party officials.

He noted that he is a member of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and that there was no meeting held to deliberate on pulling out of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

“I am a NEC member of the party but I don’t remember attending such a meeting where we discussed that the Democratic Party is going to pull out of the Kenya Kwanza coalition so to that extent that is not a decision which I can say is binding to me.

"From where I sit I will continue working closely with the Kenya Kwanza coalition,” Ruku stated.

The party which is affiliated to Public Service CS Justin Muturi in a letter dated March 7 and addressed to the Kenya Kwanza Coalition Secretariat, cited prevailing political developments as the reason for its departure.

"Kindly take notice that our stay in Kenya Kwanza Coalition is no longer tenable due to the prevailing political developments," the letter read in part.

The Party also stated that it is giving a 30-day notice to formally exit the coalition, as stipulated in the coalition agreement.

"Democratic Party of Kenya, vide this letter, hereby gives a thirty (30) day notice to exit the Coalition as stipulated in the Termination Clause (8) in the Coalition Agreement," the letter added.
