The IEBC selection panel has been conducting interviews for those seeking to be the chairperson and commissioners of the electoral body.

Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has demanded consultations before the appointment of commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

In a letter addressed to President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Friday, March 28, Kalonzo expressed that the two leaders needed to consult with the opposition parties to ensure that the commission appointed in non-partisan.

He explained that the consultations were part of the agreements reached during the NADCO process.

On the other hand, given that ODM and UDA had signed an agreement, Kalonzo expressed that Raila's party could not be taken to be the voice of the opposition faction.

He also warned that having a partisan commission would pose risks to the stability of the country, given the violence that had been witnessed in past elections.

"For the avoidance of doubt, should the UDA/ODM Alliance proceed with the appointment of the IEBC chairperson and commissioners without the meaningful participation of the Opposition, such an action will be deemed as an attempt to establish a partisan electoral body and pre-rig the next elections," read the letter in part.

"We remain committed to vigorously opposing any attempt to interfere with or undermine the sovereign will of the Kenyan people."
