"This is the time to unite, not create confusion and chaos."

Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has opposed any impeachment attempts against governors in Ukambani counties.

In a statement on Sunday, March 30, after a meeting with leaders from the Kitui County Assembly, Mutua called or unity among leaders in the region.

"I do not and will not support any impeachment of leaders in Ukambani counties. I stand against the impeachment of County Assembly Speakers and Governors, including H.E. Malombe of Kitui, H.E. Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos, and H.E. Mutula Kilonzo Jr. of Makueni. This is the time to unite, not create confusion and chaos," he said.

During the same meeting, the leaders also discussed the region’s political alignment, noting that Ukambani has always worked with the government.

"Our late, great leaders, Mulu Mutisya and Paul Ngei, always aligned with the government of the day for the benefit of our people. Ukambani was never in the opposition.

"Even H.E. Raila Odinga understands that staying in the opposition can be detrimental to his supporters’ fortunes. President William Ruto is open to accommodating all for the prosperity of the nation," he stated.

Mutua also announced President William Ruto’s upcoming visit to the region, urging leaders to come together and ensure maximum benefit for their constituents.

"President William Ruto will soon visit Ukambani to launch projects and listen to our concerns. To maximize the benefits for our people, we must work as a team, myself as a Cabinet Minister, Excellency Governors, esteemed Principal Secretaries, Hon. Senators, Hon. MPs, Hon. MCAs, Clergy, Professionals etc. Together, we can climb any mountain and milk any cow," he added.

Mutua's statement comes amid an alleged attempt to initiate an impeachment motion against his predecessor, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti.

Muthwani MCA Dominic Maitha publicly threatened to table an impeachment motion against Wavinya while speaking during a bursary issuance event in Ngalalya on Wednesday, March 19.

He accused the governor of several serious offenses, including corruption, nepotism, misuse of public funds and illegally spending county resources.

The situation escalated when Maitha was reported missing on Tuesday, March 25, just days after his public threat.

Maitha resurfaced on Thursday, March 27, and later confirmed he had gone into hiding after noticing unknown individuals trailing him.

He denied rumors of bribery and asserted that his life remained at risk, emphasizing his determination to continue his political work despite the threats.

“I know my life is at risk, but I am not worried. When I joined politics, I was ready for anything that could happen. I want to make it clear that I was never given any money by MP Makau.

"Those are lies and propaganda. Some bloggers were even paid to send me threatening messages, which I have shared on social media,” he said.
