Former Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) board chairperson Irungu Nyakera now says his Farmers Party is still in the Kenya Kwanza coalition, but his heart is still not there.
This is after President William Ruto fired him as the KICC board Chairperson.
Speaking on Thursday, April 3, Nyakera claimed he was fired from the position because he supported former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
"Before the 2022 elections, my party, the Farmers Party, joined UDA within the Kenya Kwanza coalition. There were coalition agreements on how we would work together…Wetangula, Muturi, Kingi, we were all there.
Two years later, we started being removed. Gachagua was the first to be removed. Next, I was removed from KEMSA and taken to KICC. Later, we seemed like we were supporting Gachagua in one way or another, and made them see that we are criticizing the government and we should also be removed. We are still in Kenya Kwanza, but our hearts are no longer there,” said Nyakera.

Nyakera was fired in a special gazette notice dated April 1 and replaced with Samuel Waweru Mwangi.
He had previously served as the chairperson of the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) before he was moved to be the KICC board chair.
Before being sacked, Nyakera had announced he would not attend President Ruto’s Mt region tour as he was in school at Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
“I will not be present during the President’s upcoming visit to Mt Kenya as I am still in school at Oxford University,” said Nyakera.
The former KICC board chairperson, however, urged Mt Kenya locals against being hostile to President Ruto when he visits the region.
