“I do not want to advise General Kahariri, but having worked with President William Ruto, I want to tell him to be very careful."

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, April 7, urged the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri and the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to be cautious with President William Ruto.

Gachagua claimed that the two might have been set up to spark public uproar before being removed from their positions.

The former DP alleged that Ruto set up former police IG Japhet Kanja during the 2024 June protests and when there was much pressure, the president asked him to resign.

“I do not want to advise General Kahariri, but having worked with President William Ruto, I want to tell him to be very careful. I saw the way IG Japhet Koome was set up by the President during the Gen Z protests. He set him up to say this and that, and when there was too much pressure, he called him in my presence and asked him to resign.

“Probably the General has been told to go and say this so that there can be a public backlash, and probably prepare a way for his exit. I am not sure, but let him be careful because I know President Ruto,” said Gachagua.

He also claimed that Kanja was tricked by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to speak during President Ruto’s tour in Mt Kenya.

Gachagua asked Kahariri and Kanja to measure what they speak in public and to remain professional.

“I want to ask Kanja and General Kahariri to be careful, measure what you say, remain professional, and don’t allow the President to find a reason to exit you,” Gachagua added.

His remarks come after Kanja faced a backlash from Kenyans over addressing members of the public during Ruto’s Mt Kenya tour.

General Kahariri, on the other hand, received criticism online after he said the ‘Ruto must go’ campaign must be conducted according to the constitution.
