National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi will be appointed the Spokesman of the Mount Kenya region on March 6, 2021.
The move is widely viewed as strategic in the bid to find President Uhuru Kenyatta a successor from the region.
Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders Chairperson Josephat Murangiri on March 4 revealed that Speaker Muturi will be installed as the region's spokesperson at a Njuri Ncheke shrine in Nchiru.

The ceremony will be graced by elders from Embu, Mbeere, Meru and Kikuyu.
"it will be a big event that will of course, have political ramifications in the region. We know what will happen will not please everyone, especially the power brokers. But Muturi is a senior politician from this side of the mountain and we want our voice to be heard," Murangiri stated.
A set of leaders in the speaker's corner have indicated that he has the backing of elders from Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, and Kirinyaga counties.
Though President Kenyatta has maintained a tactical silence on succession politics, leaders and political pundits have opined that the region needs a face, leading up to the 2022 general election.
Muturi's endorsement to lead the mountain is said to have been floated around during the Sagana meeting between elders and President Kenyatta.
Speaker Muturi is reported to have already held meetings with Njuri Ncheke, the Kiama Kia Ma Kikuyu Council of Elders, the Nyangi Ndiiririri, and Ngome elders of Embu and Mbeere.
He has also had a series of consultative meetings with religious leaders at his home in Kanyuambora.
The 2022 general election has upped the political temperatures in the country resulting in leaders including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga holding meetings with elders from Mt Kenya.
