There have been concerns of a division running down the ODM party, prompting a reaction from the party leader.

ODM leader Raila Odinga has weighed in on the in-house wrangles that have rocked the party since the signing of the working pact between the outfit and the President William Ruto-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Two factions have emerged within the party, harshly taking on each other over supporting Ruto's regime.

One side comprises ranking members like Siaya governor James Orengo, Kisumu's Anyang' Nyong'o and Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna.

The Sifuna-led faction is strongly opposed to Ruto's government and has vowed to continue calling out the government whenever it blunders.

The differences have played out in public, with the likes of Orengo being threatened with impeachment if they do not desist from attacking the government.

Reacting to the events at the party, Raila sought to bring sanity and order back.

He at first appreciated that the differences were an indication of growing democracy in the party.

"Raila Odinga believes the discussions are not unique to ODM and are in line with similar such engagements that have gone on in equally strong parties in established democracies," read a statement from his spokesperson, Dennis Onyango.

According to the spokesperson, the party will have a unified position regarding partnership with the government in the near future.

The position will be arrived at upon official deliberations by the party members.

The ODM boss called on his loyalists to be orderly as they engage each other on the matters at hand.

"Raila Odinga appeals to ODM members and leaders to exercise decorum, civility, restraint and respect for each other as they debate the current state of affairs and the future of the party. He assures members that the party will remain united and focused on matters of interest to the nation," the spokesperson said.
