President William Ruto has mourned the death of Pope Francis.

Pope Francis died on Monday April 21 morning at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta.

In a statement, President Ruto said the passing away of Pope Francis is a big loss to the Catholic church.

He noted that Pope Francis will be remembered for his dedication to the church, his exemplary servant leadership, and his deep compassion for the poor.

“We join the Catholic Church and the global Christian community in mourning the passing of Pope Francis. This is a big loss to the Catholic faithful and the Christian world. Pope Francis will be remembered for a life dedicated to serving the Lord, the Church, and humanity.

“He exemplified servant leadership through his humility, his unwavering commitment to inclusivity and justice, and his deep compassion for the poor and the vulnerable. His strong ethical and moral convictions inspired millions across the world, regardless of faith or background,” said Ruto.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on his part said Pope Francis led the Catholic church on firm doctrine and faith and inspired many people outside the Catholic Church with great love and humility.

“The Holy Father has left a big gap in the Church and the world. His contribution to Catholicism remains strong. My deepest sympathies to the Catholic faithful in Kenya and the World. We will remember him strongly as one of the Popes who visited Kenya during his Papacy and prayed for our Nation oftenly,” he stated.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi mourned Pope Francis as a shepherd of hope, peace, and unwavering faith, noting that his legacy will remain for many generations.

“A light to the world has dimmed. Today, we mourn the passing of Pope Francis, a shepherd of hope, peace, and unwavering faith. His legacy of compassion and unity will endure across generations. May he rest in eternal peace,” Mudavadi eulogized.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula remembered Pope Francis for his advocacy for the poor, tireless pursuit of peace, and call for unity touched hearts worldwide.

Wetang’ula pointed out that Pope Francis embodied Christ’s teachings of love, mercy, and forgiveness, regardless of race, nationality, or status.

“His encyclicals, Evangelii Gaudium and Fratelli Tutti, challenged us to become instruments of peace and fraternity, while his devotion to Marian spirituality and the Eucharist deepened the faith of millions. Pope Francis reminded us that the Church must be a “field hospital” a place of healing, hope, and compassion. His life of service leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire generations to walk in the path of Christ,” he stated.

The ODM Party also eulogized the Pontiff as a dedicated servant who championed peace in the society.

“We join the rest of the world and the Catholic community in mourning the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday. The Pontiff spent most of his life serving God and humanity. He was the embodiment of peace and always championed for a peaceful society. May his soul rest in Peace,” the party mourned.
