The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into allegations that a police officer assaulted a woman in Narok.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 22, IPOA confirmed that it had reached out to the affected family and begun an independent probe.
“Following widely circulated images on social media depicting injuries sustained by a woman, allegedly inflicted by a police officer, IPOA reached out to the affected family yesterday, Monday, 21 April 2025,” the statement read.
According to IPOA, preliminary findings indicated that the woman was receiving treatment at Narok Level 5 Hospital following the assault.
"An independent investigation into the matter has been launched and preliminary findings by our rapid response team indicate that the victim is receiving treatment at Narok Level 5 Hospital," the statement added.

IPOA reiterated its commitment to accountability and impartiality in the investigation, promising appropriate recommendations for any officer found in violation of the law.
“The Authority remains committed to conducting the investigation with impartiality, as it delivers its mandate of holding the police accountable, and working towards the attainment of the provision of Article 244 of the Constitution. IPOA will make appropriate recommendations for any police officer who will be found culpable for any violation of the law,” the statement concluded.
The woman at the centre of the case was reportedly assaulted by the officer after visiting the station to report a domestic issue involving a motorcycle jointly owned with her husband.
According to her, the situation escalated after she discovered that the officer may have been colluding with her husband and another woman to intimidate and harm her.
A medical report indicated she suffered soft tissue injuries and grievous harm.
