Earlier Wednesday, Kenya Power addressed concerns over a prolonged blackout affecting over ten areas in Garissa town.

In a statement, the utility firm disclosed that parts of Garissa town have been without electricity since approximately 2:00 a.m. following a fault at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) substation that supplies the area.

The power company listed the affected areas as Madogo, Bangal, KBC, Iftin, Bula Mzuri, Garissa General Hospital, Bula Gestow, Bula Hagar, Bula Game, Bula Hodan, Bashal, Modika Barracks, and Garissa University.

In a follow-up update, Kenya Power announced that a joint team drawn from both Kenya Power and KETRACO had been mobilized and was on its way to the site to identify and fix the problem.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as the team works to restore power as soon as possible; updates will follow," the company stated.

The prolonged outage has disrupted operations in the affected areas, with the blackout impacting critical facilities including the regional referral hospital and the local university.
