Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has announced that he will seek the presidency in the 2027 general election.
In a statement on Monday, April 28, Salasya said he made the decision after holding wide consultations and careful considerations.
“After deep reflection, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the state of our nation, I, Hon. Peter Kalerwa Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East Constituency, hereby declare my intention to vie for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the 2027 General Election,” read the statement in part.
The Mumias East MP noted that the decision to run for the presidential bid is born out of a profound desire to offer bold, transformative leadership that will reposition Kenya for industrial growth, economic empowerment, and social justice.
Salasya pointed out that he believes Kenya should focus on manufacturing and industrialization to create sustainable jobs.

“Kenya today stands at a crossroads: we cannot continue exporting our labor and talents abroad while our industries collapse and our youth languish in unemployment.
“I firmly believe that Kenya must manufacture, innovate, and industrialize to create sustainable jobs and unlock the full potential of our people,” Salasya stated.
He went on to mention that he will run for the presidency under a new movement, which will be announced later in the year.
“I will be seeking the presidency under a new political movement, a party whose name and leadership structure will be unveiled later this year. This movement will embody the dreams and aspirations of a new Kenya: a Kenya where opportunity is not a privilege for the few, but for all of us,” Salasya added.
Further, he called on Kenyans to join and support him in his bid to vie for the presidential position.
Salasya was elected as the Mumias East MP in August 2022 under the DAP-K party. He garnered 12,140 votes, beating David Wamatsi, who ran on an ANC party ticket.
The first-term MP now joins a list of politicians who have declared presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
This includes: former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Okiya Omtatah, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa.
Former Chief Justice David Maraga and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i are also said to be considering vying for the top seat.
