The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party disciplinary committee has ordered nominated senator Gloria Orwoba to appear before it over an apparent breach of the party's code of conduct.
Orwoba is facing disciplinary action for, among other things, being present at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to welcome former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i when he returned to the country on April 17, accompanying Matiang'i on his maiden political rally in Gusii Stadium and also giving utterances castigating the government during her appearance on a local radio interview.
According to the UDA party, Orwoba, by the foregoing actions, seemed to be in support of another political association in opposition to the party that sponsored her to the Senate.
The party termed her undertakings as conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to the President William Ruto-led political outfit.
"Your said activities, which are political in character, are further in breach of the party's Code of Conduct, which you subscribed to, and constitute gross misconduct in the contemplation of the Constitution of the party. The particulars of the foregoing are well: Article 75 of the Constitution of Kenya, as read together with the Code of Conduct of the party, together with your oath of office, provide clearly for the expected conduct of a party member serving in any position to which the party assigned, sponsored and/or nominated him/her to," the summon letter addressed to Orwoba read.

UDA accused the nominated senator of striving to popularise a different outfit despite continuing to hold the membership of UDA.
The committee asked her to appear before it on May 16 at the party's headquarters along Ngong Road, after which actions would be taken should she be found liable of the accusations against her.
Orwoba is expected to show cause why she should not be held accountable for allegedly breaching the party's constitution.
"Kindly note that if the Committee finds you liable, it shall forthwith remit its decision to the National Executive Committee of the party for further action, including the implementation and execution thereof. You are further advised that in terms of Article 29.1.12 of the party constitution, you are entitled to represent yourself in the proceedings in person or appear with your advocate," the summons signed by the disciplinary committee chairperson Charles Njenga read.
The senator has, in the recent past, been embroiled in problems, including being suspended from the Senate.
The UDA summons came just a few weeks after she was readmitted back to the Senate after a month-long suspension.
She had been sent out of the upper house in January 2025 and was to serve a 79-day suspension, but the Senate later reduced it to 30 days.
Orwoba was first suspended in September 2023 after she failed to substantiate the claims that the Senate clerk made sexual advances towards her.
She moved to court and secured a court order staying the resolution of this House.
The order was, however, lifted after she failed to appear before the Senate's special committee where she was to be grilled over her accusations against the clerk.
