Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has arrived in the Dominican Republic following a high-level visit to the United States.

In a statement on Monday, May 12, the Office of the PCS said Mudavadi's arrival marks the beginning of the inaugural political consultations between Kenya and the Carribbean nation.

"The Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, arrived in Santo Domingo for the first political consultations between Kenya and the Dominican Republic, focusing on cooperation in security, health, trade, and investment," the statement read.

Upon arrival in Santo Domingo, Mudavadi was officially received by the Vice Minister for Bilateral Relations Francisco Caraballo and Chief of Protocol Ambassador Francisco Cantizano.

"Mudavadi was received by H.E. Francisco Caraballo, Vice Minister for Bilateral Relations, and H.E. Ambassador Francisco Cantizano, Chief of Protocol. 

"We look forward to constructive engagements aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between our two countries," the statement added.

Mudavadi is accompanied by a senior delegation including National Security Adviser Monica Juma, Nominated Senator Veronica Maina and Kenya's envoy to Cuba Ambassador Mwenda Karisa.

The visit follows Mudavadi's trip to Washington, D.C. for high-level bilateral talks with the United States government.

In a statement on Tuesday, May 6, the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary said the visit followed an invitation from the US administration.

“Mudavadi's trip following an invitation from the US government, will be the first high-level engagement between Nairobi and Washington DC since President Donald Trump was reelected,” the statement read.

Come Wednesday, May 7, Mudavadi held a meeting with the United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington D.C.

In a statement, Mudavadi disclosed that they discussed regional peace and security, expanded trade and investment, and deepened diplomatic engagement between Kenya and the US.

“Kenya and the United States continue to build on decades of shared values and strategic cooperation. In Washington, D.C., I held a high-level meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State, Senator Marco Rubio, where we discussed regional peace and security, expanded trade and investment, and deepened diplomatic engagement,” he said.

Mudavadi also said they emphasized the need to fast-track the Kenya–U.S. Free Trade Agreement.

He also briefed Rubio on the ongoing East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC)-led peace efforts in the DRC.

Mudavadi further said Rubio reaffirmed the US government’s support for the Kenya-led MSS Mission in Haiti and leadership on regional stability.

“Sen. Rubio reaffirmed U.S. support for Kenya’s leadership on regional stability, democratic governance, and the Kenya-led MSS Mission in Haiti,” he added.

Additionally, Mudavadi said Rubio expressed keen interest in visiting Kenya to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
