Orwoba is facing disciplinary action after she attended the events held in Kisii and Nyamira counties.

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has expressed that she should not be punished by the UDA party for attending the homecoming ceremony of former Interior CS Fred Matiang'i.

Speaking on Friday, May 16, Orwoba explained that the event was a social event.

She clarified that the homecoming was not a political event; therefore, it was wrong for the party to want to punish her for it.

"If you look at what is happening, it means you will be afraid to raise an issue on the floor of the House (Parliament) because some people here might come and use party machinery to silence you," she stated.

"We must work independently. I am nominated, and I am loyal. On the issue of Matiang'i, I come from a community, and that was a social event. How many people have you seen going to a social event? A social event is non-bi-partisan. A homecoming is non-bi-partisan."

Orwoba is facing disciplinary action after her attendance at the event that was held in Kisii and Nyamira counties.

According to UDA, Orwoba was disloyal to the party following her presence and remarks at the event where Matiang'i announced that he would go for the presidency.

“Your participation in these events and the utterances made therein provide clear evidence of allegiance to another political movement, actions deemed unbecoming, and disloyalty to the United Democratic Alliance Party (the party) that nominated you to the position of Senator in the Senate of the Republic of Kenya.”

Meanwhile, the High Court of Nairobi on Friday blocked the ruling party from continuing with the disciplinary proceedings.

"That pending hearing and determination of this application, a conservatory order is hereby issued suspending disciplinary proceedings by the Respondent against the Petitioner founded on the allegations contained in a letter to the Petitioner by the UDA," read part of the ruling by Justice Lawrence Mugambi.
