The Law Society of Kenya has announced that it will lead
countrywide protests should President Uhuru Kenyatta fail to dissolve
Parliament by latest October 12, 2020 as advised by Chief Justice David Maraga.
Addressing the media earlier today, LSK President Nelson
Havi and a section of leaders from the United Green Movement party noted that
President Kenyatta has no other option other than sending the MPs home.
He noted that if the President does not follow CJ Maraga’s
advisory, then the society will lead protest to occupy Parliament.
“We will proceed in civil permissible numbers. All Kenyans who want to exercise their right to do so within the confines of the law… Parliament must be dissolved or occupied effective October 12, 2020…We make this call not only because CJ has asked for the dissolution of parliament. There are many reasons. As we speak the Cabinet is unlawfully constituted,” Havi said.

He further noted that on October 12, if Parliament would not
have been dissolved, LSK and other like-minded parties will issue a vacation
order to the clerks and speakers of the Senate and National Assembly.
“On the 12th October 2012 by 2.30 pm we will issue a notice
to vacate to the two clerks and the speakers," he divulged.
Uhuru’s response to
Maraga advisory
Meanwhile, President Kenyatta recently noted that he has no
intention to dissolve Parliament as advised by Maraga.
In an interview with France24 last week when he visited
France, Uhuru said the decision was before the courts and will await the court’s
ruling on the same.
"It's not what I'd like to do. But it is an option that
has been put by the Chief Justice so we wait to see what the outcome of the
court process will produce,” he said.
