The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has temporarily closed the Nyaru - Flourspar - Kapkayo - Tenges (B124) road in Rift Valley.
In a statement on Monday May 26, KeNHA Director General Kungu Ndungu said the closure of the road is as a result of massive landslides caused by the ongoing heavy rains in the stretch.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority regrets to announce a temporary closure of Nyaru - Flourspar - Kapkayo - Tenges (B124) road at Kaptoror Village, Turesia Sub-location (13 km from Nyaru).
“The closure has been occasioned by massive landslides caused by the ongoing heavy rains within the area,” read the statement in part.
Ndungu noted that the landslides have heaped soil and debris, blocking a significant section of the road.

The KeNHA Director General also noted that huge cracks have emerged on the road, hence compromising the safety of road users.
He urged motorists plying the route are hereby urged to use the Nyaru - Kamwosor - Ketigoi – Fluorspar road to get to their destinations.
Additionally, Ndungu stated that efforts by KeNHA to restore traffic flow along the road are currently underway.
