Opposition leaders have demanded the immediate ending of abductions after Juja MP George Koimburi was found dumped at a coffee plantation.
In a statement signed by the leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua, on Tuesday, May 27, the leaders also called for accountability among telecommunication companies, which they accused of aiding the abductions.
As alleged by the leaders, the companies were helping the authorities conduct surveillance on Kenyans.
"We are deeply disturbed by the growing role of private sector enablers in this crackdown. We call out telecommunication companies in particular, Safaricom, which may have turned a blind eye, or worse, actively collaborated with the regime to surveil, trace, and aid the abduction of citizens. We demand that they publicly account for the data they provide to security agencies and affirm their commitment to protecting the rights and privacy of their customers.
"We equally put on notice all political and business elites, those who fund the goon squads, those who lobby for the maintenance of tyranny, and those in the diplomatic community who remain silent as Kenya burns. History will remember your complicity," the leaders claimed.

Equally, they demanded that the police stop disrupting meetings organised by opposition leaders, as was witnessed over the weekend in Kakamega.
Further, the team demanded that government authorities protect leaders and Kenyans despite their political affiliations.
The leaders issued the statement a day after the Juja lawmaker was found dumped at a coffee plantation.
The MP is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi. It is reported that the MP lost his voice after inhaling a chemical.
"Some chemical was administered through inhalation, and the doctors have told us that preliminary investigations confirm that the chemical has interfered with his vocal cords," former DP Rigathi Gachagua stated after visiting the MP.
On its part, the National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed that the MP was abducted by its officers.
"Police from Juja visited the alleged scene, and the area was properly documented. Meanwhile, a special team from DCI headquarters is analysing the purported abduction video and all circumstances surrounding these allegations to conclusively establish the truth," NPS added in the statement.
