Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi broke down while narrating his experience at the hands of Tanzanian authorities last month.

Addressing the press on Monday, June 2, Mwangi revealed that he was sexually assaulted by the officers.

He detailed that the officers put objects in his private parts during the interrogation.

"They tied me upside down, and then they started beating my feet. I was screaming so hard, but there were no tears coming out because of how painful it was. One of them suggested that they put underwear in my mouth, so they did,"

"When they were abusing me, they told me to say that I was feeling good and thank their president. They told me that they had recorded the videos and threatened that they would release them if we said what happened to us."

The activist also indicated that he was forced to give his personal details, such as passwords for his email.

"When I was naked, they also asked me about my email address, passwords and everything. Because I was afraid that they would hurt me more, I gave them everything they wanted," he stated.

"They told me to dress up, and that is when they went to torture Agather Atuhaire."

He added that he was scared of the incident, expressing regret that the Kenyan government did not defend them enough during the incident.

Mwangi and Agather were arrested in Tanzania after they travelled to attend the court session of Tundu Lissu, an opposition leader facing treason charges.

Tanzanian authorities are yet to respond to the statements made by the human rights activists.

However, President Samia Suluhu has claimed that foreign activists were keen on interfering with their internal affairs to destabilise the country.

"We should not allow them; they have already destabilized their country. The only country that has not been destabilized, where people are peaceful, is here (Tanzania)," she stated.
