The huge traffic was caused by an accident involving a school van near Garden City Mall.

Motorists using the Thika Road were left stranded on Monday morning, June 16, after being stuck in Traffic. 

This is after an unbranded school van carrying children was involved in a road accident near Garden City Mall, blocking the busy section towards Nairobi.

The accident happened at around 6 am, and the injured students were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The accident resulted in a huge traffic snarl-up from Githurai 45 to the accident scene near the Garden City Mall in both sections heading to Nairobi CBD.

Following the accident, motorists took to social media to express their frustrations with the traffic snarl-up.

Traffic police officers have since been deployed to the scene to ease the traffic.

The accident comes days after a bus belonging to Super Metro was involved in an accident along Thika Road.

In a statement, the bus company detailed that the accident was caused by a lorry that collided with the bus.

No fatalities were reported during the morning accident; however, two people sustained injuries.

"Super Metro Limited regrets to confirm that one of our buses was involved in a road incident this morning along Juja Road, involving a collision with a lorry,' read the statement in part.

"Preliminary reports indicate that the lorry was swerving at high speed before colliding with our bus.

UPDATE: 

Police have cleared the road along Thika Road, and normalcy has resumed following the accident.
