The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers are detaining activist Boniface Mwangi over allegations of facilitating terrorism-like acts in recent protests.
Mwangi was picked up at his home in Machakos County on Saturday evening, July 19.
The detectives had initially suggested taking him to the DCI headquarters but backed down on that plan.
They instead drove with him to Pangani Police Station, where he is currently being processed, awaiting arraignment on Monday, July 21.
In an update a day after the arrest, the DCI explained that Mwangi was being investigated over "facilitation of terrorist activities during the June 25, 2025, protests."

The detectives seized two mobile phones, a laptop, and several notebooks from his home.
They drove with him to his offices in Nairobi, where several articles, including round ammunition and tear gas canisters, were recovered.
"He was later escorted to his office at Mageuzi Hub, Rose Avenue in Hurlingham, where a search led to the recovery of: nine assorted external hard drives, two laptops, company seals for Brave Media Ltd and Courage Ltd, a company stamp, six checkbooks, copies of stamp duty documents, two unused tear gas canisters and one 7.62 mm blank round," the DCI said.
He is expected to face charges related to facilitation of terrorist acts and unlawful possession of ammunition.
The arrest sparked uproar, with opposition leaders coming out to blast the government for suppressing human rights defenders and muzzling dissent.
"When will this campaign of intimidation and harassment stop? You openly walk with militias but arrest law abiding citizens? We know you have instructions from the rogue regime to target as many human rights defenders as you can to intimidate and silence Kenyans but citizens of goodwill will resist," Karua said, addressing her displeasure to the DCI.
"I strongly condemn the arrest of civil rights activist Boniface Mwangi, a bold and fearless advocate for truth and justice. I have directed our legal team to do everything they can to ensure his release at the earliest time possible," said Kalonzo Musyoka.
"It started with the GenZs, then the Mcas, MPs like Hon Jane Kihara and now higher targets like Boniface Mwangi, and United Opposition Principals, civil society and other progressive forces, with the sole purpose of intimidating the Opposition and suppressing dissent," lamented DAP Kenya party leader Eugene Wamalwa.
