KeNHA has announced the closure of the Marigat-Loruk road due to flooding.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of the Marigat-Loruk (B17) road.

In a statement on Thursday, August 21, KeNHA said the section of road will has been closed between 29+800 and Km 40+000.

KeNHA noted that the rapidly rising water levels of Lake Baringo caused flooding on the road, forcing the Authority to close it.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority regrets to inform the public of the closure of Marigat - Loruk (B17) Road between Km 29+800 and Km 40+000.

“This is due to flooding of the road caused by the fast-rising water levels of Lake Baringo,” read part of the KeNHA statement.

The authority also noted that an alternative route has been graded as a diversion at Km 29+200 on Marigat - Loruk (B17) Road that will intersect on Loruk - Chemalingot at Km 2+400.

Further, KeNHA cautioned motorists against attempting to use the section of the closed road in the interest of their safety.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and advise when the water levels recede. The Authority remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage of goods and services for economic prosperity,” KeNHA added.

The closure comes days after KeNHA announced a temporary traffic disruption on the Marigat-Loruk road near the intersection between the Marigat-Loruk road and the Marigat-Kabarnet road.

In a statement on August 15, the Authority announced that the disruption will run from Friday, August 22, 2025, to Tuesday, February 17, 2026, to allow for the scheduled construction of a box culvert along the road section.

KenHA stated that during the period, traffic will be directed to share lanes, as some lanes will be affected.

Further, the authority advised motorists to follow the traffic management plan, project road signs, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site.
