Two people were arrested following a multi-agency operation that netted crates of counterfeit alcohol brands in Nyeri County, as authorities intensify their crackdown on illicit alcohol trade across the country.
In a statement released by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) on Friday, August 29, a multi-agency team led by the Deputy County Commissioner of Nyeri executed a successful operation in the Micha and Majengo areas.
The team first raided an unlicensed storage facility in Micha, Ruringu, operated by Peter Kariuki, alias Kariz wa Viceroy.
The operation then extended to Jupiter Bar in Majengo, where counterfeit and suspected second-generation alcohol was sold to customers.
During the coordinated raids, authorities seized substantial quantities of suspected counterfeit alcohol, including 10 crates of Vienna Ice, 29 cartons of Smart Vodka, and numerous bottles of Jambo Beer, Jambo Ice, Dallas Gin, Best Gin, and Sweet Berry.

Two suspects were arrested and, together with the exhibits, booked at Nyeri Central Police Station.
NACADA, in partnership with government agencies including the Kenya National Police, Ministry of Interior, and county administration officials, has been conducting sustained operations against illicit alcohol manufacturers and distributors.
These coordinated efforts are part of a broader government strategy to eliminate dangerous counterfeit alcohol from the market and protect public health across all 47 counties.
As part of its comprehensive strategy, NACADA has trained 1,000 Chiefs from across Kenya with vital Substance Use Prevention and Management skills.
The intensive training program, described as changing the game from the ground up, has mobilized and empowered community leaders to become frontline protectors in the fight against illicit alcohol and drugs.
NACADA officers facilitated the training sessions at the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi.
“This initiative is a direct response to the actionable recommendations born from the Jukwaa La Usalama Forums, proving our commitment to turning dialogue into tangible action,” NACADA noted.
