Police have been analyzing CCTV footage to reconstruct the slain advocate's final movements.

Kenya African National Union (KANU) Secretary General George Wainaina was among three people arrested on Thursday evening following the murder of city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu.

The former Nairobi County Chief of Staff is said to be a person of interest in the ongoing case as he was among the last few people to see Mbobu alive.

Following the fatal shooting of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, police have been analyzing CCTV footage to reconstruct the slain advocate's final movements.

Based on the footage, detectives have confirmed the arrest of former Nairobi County Chief of Staff George Wainaina, who is among those believed to have met Mbobu at Sagreto Hotel on Tuesday, just hours before his killing.

Wainaina was arrested at 2 am in Karen alongside three other suspects now treated as persons of interest in Mbobu's murder.

Also in police custody is Eric Muia, a neighbor to both Wainaina and Mbobu in Karen.

Muia was booked at Upper Hill Police Station at 2 am Friday after hours of questioning by homicide detectives.

Detectives are also holding a third suspect, Paul Mbogo, at Kilimani Police Station in connection with the killing.

Wainaina was arrested at his Karen home, where police confiscated Ksh 50 million in cash.

Speaking on Friday, Wainaina’s lawyer noted that his client was only a person of interest among several others, clarifying that the arrest had no connection to homicide allegations.

"On the issues that I know where you want to go on the issues of homicide, we have not been informed that that is what our client is being charged or that's the investigations against him,” the lawyer stated. “There's the specific issue of money being found with my client at his residence. So far I've not had any laws that prohibit anyone from carrying money as long as they're legitimate monies. So there's no law in this country that prohibits anyone from having any amounts of money as long as it's legitimate money."

Mbobu was shot dead on Tuesday evening when motorcycle-riding gunmen approached his stationary vehicle along the busy Magadi Road and opened fire without warning.

The assailants shattered the lawyer's car windshield before discharging rounds that critically injured Mbobu.

Government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Mbobu was shot eight times, with the shooter firing at close range.

According to the autopsy report, Mbobu died as a result of severe injuries and excessive bleeding from the gunshot wounds sustained during the shooting.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has maintained its commitment to solving the high-profile murder case, with pressure mounting from the legal fraternity for quick answers.

"The DCI is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice. Our investigators are working diligently, employing all available resources and expertise to piece together the events surrounding this incident," the directorate stated.
