Kenya Met added that the current soil moisture levels will support tree planting and other greening activities planned for the day.
"With soils already moist in many areas, the prevailing conditions are favorable for tree planting and establishment, supporting Kenya’s ongoing environmental restoration and climate action efforts," the statement added.
Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa had on Wednesday, October 8, urged Kenyans to participate in Mazingira Day activities by giving back to their former schools through tree donations and cleanup drives.
"We are inviting every Kenyan to go back to their former primary school to donate and plant a fruit tree and to clean and green the school environment. This year’s campaign is anchored on a very simple yet powerful idea; Turudi primo tukadonate fruit trees na tukaclean environment," she said.
Mazingira Day is dedicated to raising awareness about environmental conservation, climate change, and the sustainable use of natural resources.
It provides an opportunity for individuals, communities, and institutions to take part in activities that promote environmental protection.
The activities include tree planting, clean-up exercises, waste management drives, and awareness campaigns on preserving ecosystems.
