The Kenya Power & Lighting Company has addressed concerns over a prolonged blackout affecting over ten areas in Garissa town, which began in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
In a statement on Wednesday, October 29, the utility firm disclosed that parts of Garissa town have been without electricity since approximately 2:00 a.m. following a fault at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) substation that supplies the area.
The power company listed the affected areas as Madogo, Bangal, KBC, Iftin, Bula Mzuri, Garissa General Hospital, Bula Gestow, Bula Hagar, Bula Game, Bula Hodan, Bashal, Modika Barracks, and Garissa University.
In a follow-up update, Kenya Power announced that a joint team drawn from both Kenya Power and KETRACO had been mobilized and was on its way to the site to identify and fix the problem.
"We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as the team works to restore power as soon as possible; updates will follow," the company stated.

The prolonged outage has disrupted operations in the affected areas, with the blackout impacting critical facilities including the regional referral hospital and the local university.
Kenya Power routinely carries out maintenance works across the country to improve service delivery and prevent unplanned outages.

The utility firm had earlier notified customers in parts of Machakos, Nyamira, and Kiambu counties of planned outages running from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on various dates.
In Machakos County, the maintenance exercise affected Mlolongo and surrounding areas, including Ngwata Phase 3, Mlolongo Weigh Bridge, Kenya Power offices, Sapphire Business Park, and Weighbridge Gardens.
Parts of Nyamira County in the South Nyanza Region also experienced scheduled interruptions, affecting areas such as Mogeni Tea Factory, Ikonge Market, Ekerenyo, Kebabe Girls, Korota Market, Nyamusi Market, and Nyamusi Hospital.
Similarly, customers in Kiambu County's North Eastern Region faced maintenance-related outages in areas including Kihingo ACK, and Kihingo 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Avenues.
