The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a traffic disruption along a section of the Thika-Garissa highway due to flooding.
In a notice on Wednesday, October 29, KeNHA said the section of the highway linking Bangali and Madogo has been affected by floods at Tula, between the 31st and 37th kilometers from Bangali Centre.
The authority warned that the flooded sections may experience increased water levels if the ongoing rains across the country continue.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify the public that traffic flow along the Thika - Garissa (A3) Road on the road linking Bangali and Madogo has been affected by floods at Tula in various sections between 31Km and 37Km from Bangali Centre.
“The road sections which have been flooded may experience increased water levels if the rain continues,” read the notice in part.

KeNHA urged motorists and road users to exercise patience and caution, advising them to wait for water levels to subside before resuming their journeys.
The authority also said its staff are already on-site to monitor the situation and will restore traffic flow once conditions are safe.
“All road users and motorists are, therefore, advised to exercise patience and caution so as to allow water levels to subside before proceeding with their journey,” KeNHA added.
The Thika–Garissa highway has been affected by floods several times, leaving motorists stranded for hours. In April 2024, the road was closed following heavy flooding in the Arer area.
In November 2023, traffic was disrupted after the right-hand side of the road was washed away by floods.
The traffic disruption comes after the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) predicted rainfall across 8 regions this week.
In a weather forecast on Monday, October 27, the department said rains are expected in the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, and Lake Victoria Basin.
Other regions that will experience the showers include the Coastal Region, Southeastern lowlands, Northwest, and North Eastern Kenya.
The Met Department noted that isolated heavy rainfall may occur in some of the 8 regions.
“Rainfall is expected over several parts of the country, including the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, the Coastal Region, parts of Southeastern lowlands, Northwest and North Eastern Kenya,” read the forecast in part.
